An Anniversary Well Celebrated

I realized that my reflections on 11 September will need to be reframed and rewritten, and plan on doing so when i return to New York next week. For right now, let me say this: there’s no better way to spend this day than in the happy presence of family and friends.

Holiday Thanks 2

Perhaps I should have posted this closer to Thanksgiving, but it’s just occurring to me now. For a while there, I was very seriously considering leaving my job. My boss was being a scary, freaky ass, and I was not making enough money to deal with that much drama. The boss and I had a ...

Movin’ On Up

While puttering in the yard on cool summer mornings when my back is cooperating is something I enjoy, my beloved husband hates doing yard work. It’s understandable; he actually has “work” to do, while I just trim my rose bushes and maybe pull a weed or two. Yesterday, John’s whole outlook on yardwork changed. We ...

The Way You Think It Should

I have a confession to make, and tonight seems like an appropriate time to come clean and reveal this secret hidden in plain view: even if this space doesn’t reflect this (yet), I really like politics and policy. I like thinking about it and discussing it and learning about it. Ask anyone who knows me ...

Gmail

I managed to score a Gmail account, and have been trying it out. One thing that makes me happy immediately is the fact that it has a gig of storage. In order to work on the magazine at home, I need to be able to send myself all sorts of documents, emails, and often Quicktime ...

Level of Grace

my life has been improved by technology

I am sitting in the sunshine filled, southern exposure of my living room, with my laptop on a breakfast stray over my knees. I have been emailing and transcribing interviews so that I can finish the magazine on time. I have a giant mug of coffee and a Diet Coke (you know, alternate). John is ...

Wedding

So, here I am, engaged now for a full 2.5 days, and I feel a tizzy coming on. Even though we’ve decided on a simple wedding (although our definitions of simple aren’t the same–John said that by simple, he thought simple, like when his mom got married at City Hall and then they went home), ...

a dress, a shirt and tie

So we’ve got a location, the rings, the flowers, and the invitations were just ordered. Now we need an officiant, a dress, a shirt and tie for John (he has a suit) and…hm…that’s it really. What am I forgetting? This can’t be this simple, can it?

household

I would just like to say that the quality of life in our household has gone up dramatically since we got our dishwasher. I love our dishwasher. Our dishwasher is the greatest thing ever.
